HSBC China Enhances Corporate Client Services Via China e-CNY Amenity

Recently, HSBC China became the first foreign bank in China to offer both digital and retail services via its e-CNY China launch, a launch that would help boost corporate client services. 

Also known as the “digital yuan”, the China e-CNY is a digital currency issued by the People’s Bank of China, aimed at providing smooth corporate client services to all the retail and corporate customers linked with the Central Bank of digital currency. Further, it also aims to replace the cash in circulation with digital assets. 

The History Of China e-CNY Services 

The digital yuan trial was first introduced in late 2019 by the Central Bank of China, and the People’s Bank of China, and has since been extended to numerous places nationwide. In some places, China has already begun paying state personnel in digital yuan. However, according to a story published by the South China Morning Post, many people are still hesitant to use the e-CNY due to its practical limitations and privacy concerns.

HSBC Bank (China) announced the integration of corporate bank accounts with digital yuan (e-CNY) accounts, a step towards enhancing its corporate client services. Here are some of the benefits that the clients can enjoy – 

  • As per the statement of HSBC Bank, corporate clients now can manage their assets by linking their accounts.
  • Various cities like Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Jiaxing, and Suzhou have started to receive payments in e-CNY.
  • This move highlights a growing acceptance and adoption of digital currencies within the corporate banking sector in China.
  • Surprisingly, last month, Hong Kong gave a green signal to e-CNY wallets allowing users to set up one for cross-border payments.
